Check Book wiki lesson: This is a three-month lesson (March, April and May)
Your job is to create a budget and balance that budget by writing checks and keeping track of your checks in a check register.
Each student will get:
  • A sheet of blank checks.
  • A check book register to record check transactions.
  • A bi-monthly paycheck (amount will vary per student.)
  • A start of $500 in your checking account.

There will be three levels of pay:
  • An Assistant Principal ($91,152 per year - two paychecks of $2,388.62 per month)
  • A Teacher ($54,515 per year - two paychecks of $1,463.84 per month)
  • A Librarian ($40,000 per year - two paychecks of $1,049.44 per month)
Students will be assigned a pay check based on your attendance.
New Rule!! - If you are an Assistant Principal you have to buy a car!!

You will be paid twice monthly (1st and 15th) and you will have bills to pay at various times during the month.
Some of your expenses will be in the chart below. But remember: you do not have to have all of these expenses! You may choose not to buy a car, which also means no gas, car insurance, parking, etc. Or you may choose to live in an expensive apartment or an affordable apartment. Or there may be things that you want to buy that are not on the list. The choice is yours. But be realistic about your choices.

I will be entering the checks you need to write on a different wiki page (called checkbook wiki) You will have some flexibility in how much you spend. But you know yourself and how much you will spend on items like clothes, food, etc.
There will also be some surprise expenses - stuff happens! So budget yourself and don't spend all your money.
So to begin - start researching where you want to live and what the rent will be. Also price cars if you want to buy a car.
You should start a new wiki page called Checkbook Wiki and figure out some of your monthly expenses.
